Canadian Sikh Leaders Applaud Expulsion of Indian Diplomats Amid Criminal Allegations

Leading Sikh figures in Canada have voiced strong approval of the expulsion of six Indian diplomats accused by the RCMP of involvement in violent criminal activities, including murder, extortion, and coercion.

The World Sikh Organization (WSO) and other Sikh advocates, who have long alleged that India has been targeting the Sikh community in Canada, hailed the recent move as confirmation of foreign meddling.

WSO President Danish Singh underscored the threats posed by Indian interference, asserting that it has put Canadian citizens, particularly those engaged in the pro-Khalistan movement, at risk. He condemned India’s actions, stating, “India’s criminal activities in Canada must stop. We expect Canada’s political leaders to stand united in denouncing India’s foreign interference.”

The RCMP has identified more than a dozen credible threats against pro-Khalistan activists, including the 2023 assassination of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar outside a Surrey gurdwara. Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, founder of Sikhs for Justice, praised the expulsion of Indian diplomats and pledged to continue pushing for a Khalistan referendum despite the ongoing dangers.

Sikh activist Gurmeet Singh Toor, who has received threats himself, welcomed the RCMP’s action as a “relief” but emphasized the importance of legal action against the perpetrators. British Columbia NDP leader David Eby expressed shock at the allegations, emphasizing that such violent behavior has no place in Canada.

While India has rejected the accusations, the disclosures have sparked widespread concerns about foreign influence and the safety of the Sikh community in Canada.
