Broad Confident in England’s Approach for Pakistan Tour

England’s aggressive approach will benefit them in the spin-friendly conditions of Pakistan during their Test series in October, according to former England bowler Stuart Broad.

England will be returning to Pakistan for a red-ball series after their 3-0 sweep in Tests in 2022, where Harry Brook impressed with three centuries and their spinners played a key role.

However, Brendon McCullum’s side struggled in similar conditions earlier this year, losing 4-1 to India in a spin-dominant series.

Broad believes that while England have players capable of handling spin in Pakistan, they must maintain their ultra-aggressive style to secure favorable results.

“I think that approach will definitely work in Pakistan,” Broad said ahead of the launch of the Marylebone Cricket Club’s (MCC) new digital platform, *Inside Lord’s*.

“They’re very positive and aggressive, finding the boundary and not getting bogged down by spin.

“England will need to play fast-paced cricket to force results because it usually takes the full five days to make something happen in those conditions.”

England’s fast-bowling unit, led by Chris Woakes and including Matthew Potts, Olly Stone, Gus Atkinson, and Brydon Carse, will be missing key players like Mark Wood, who is sidelined with an elbow injury, and captain Ben Stokes, who isn’t fit to bowl yet.

Pakistan’s Challenges
Broad also mentioned that Pakistan, who lost 2-0 at home to Bangladesh last month, would likely look to exploit England’s inexperienced fast bowling attack. However, he emphasized that England should capitalize on Pakistan’s current poor form.

“Pakistan haven’t been at their best lately, which is something England can use to their advantage by putting pressure on them early,” Broad remarked.

“But we also know Pakistan has world-class talent and game-changers. It won’t be an easy challenge.

“The pitches in Pakistan were slower and offered turn in recent series, but they’ve also seen more grass and carry recently.

“I’m not sure which way Pakistan will go with their pitches—they might leave some grass, seeing England’s relatively inexperienced bowling group.”

Broad also noted that while England’s Test style has seen some inconsistent results, players should continue focusing on the positives.

The younger players may need some time to adjust, but talents like Jamie Smith have shown progress under McCullum and Stokes.

“It’s been a fantastic approach for young players to develop their game with a great deal of freedom. The crucial factor is the consistency in selection,” Broad said.

The three-match Test series against Pakistan is set to begin in Multan on October 7.
