Six Killed in Separate Attacks in Southeastern Iran Near Pakistan Border

At least six people were killed on Tuesday in separate attacks in Iran’s volatile southeastern region near the Pakistan border, according to state media.

The official IRNA news agency reported that four people, including three military personnel, were killed in a terrorist attack in Bent, a small town in southern Sistan-Baluchistan.

Additionally, two police officers were fatally shot in their vehicle in the town of Khash, located in the same province.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Sistan-Baluchistan, one of Iran’s most impoverished regions, is predominantly home to the minority Baloch community, who mostly practice Sunni Islam, contrasting with the Shiite-majority Iranian government.

This province, which borders Pakistan and Afghanistan, has long been troubled by violence involving drug cartels, insurgents from the Baluchi minority, and Sunni extremist groups.

Just a day earlier, media reports confirmed the deaths of three police officers in two separate incidents, one of which was claimed by Jaish al-Adl (Army of Justice), a Pakistan-based Sunni jihadist group formed in 2012.
