Pakistan, Qatar report progress in indirect US-Iran talks
Washington and Tehran remain willing to pursue dialogue despite continuing challenges
DOHA: (Web Desk) – Pakistan and Qatar have reported positive progress in indirect talks between the United States and Iran, with both sides agreeing to continue diplomatic engagement in the coming weeks.
Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said Pakistani and Qatari mediators held separate meetings with American and Iranian negotiators in Doha on Wednesday as part of efforts to advance dialogue between Washington and Tehran.
Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al Ansari said the discussions focused on issues linked to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and built on outcomes of the Lake Lucerne Summit.
In a statement posted on X, Al Ansari said the mediators had achieved “positive progress” on several matters under discussion, though he did not provide details about the areas where agreement had been reached.
He said both parties had agreed to keep communication channels open and continue talks in the coming period.
The next round of negotiations is expected to be scheduled at the earliest possible time after the funeral ceremonies of Iran’s former supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Pakistan and Qatar have been facilitating indirect contacts between the United States and Iran in an effort to reduce regional tensions and encourage a diplomatic resolution to longstanding disputes.
The latest round of talks indicates that both Washington and Tehran remain willing to pursue dialogue despite continuing challenges, while mediators expressed optimism that further engagement could help advance the objectives outlined in the Islamabad MoU.
