Where did PTI protesters get tear gas shells? KP IG orders investigation
PESHAWAR: The Central Police Office in Peshawar has formally requested all District Police Officers (DPOs) to provide detailed accounts of their tear gas stocks following allegations of its use during a recent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest. The protestors are accused of allegedly using government-issued tear gas shells.
On the orders of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, an investigation into the matter has been initiated. In a letter sent to relevant authorities, police officials have been asked to submit information regarding the available tear gas stock and its usage over the past week.
The letter, issued by the Central Police Office, reiterates the importance of maintaining the police department’s neutrality and political independence, referencing a previous communication sent on November 21 about police impartiality. The letter also highlights reports claiming that tear gas was used during protests in Islamabad, with a team from the AIG Logistics office being assigned to gather the necessary details.
This move underscores the ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in law enforcement activities during public protests.
