West Indies Likely to Reject Pakistan’s Request Ahead of Caribbean Tour

Pakistan, West Indies Eye Momentum in Transitional Series

ISLAMABAD: The West Indies Cricket Board (CWI) is likely to reject the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) request to shorten the upcoming ODI series and increase the number of T20 matches during Pakistan’s tour of the Caribbean.

The PCB had proposed converting the scheduled One Day Internationals (ODIs) into additional T20 Internationals (T20Is).

The reason behind the proposal was to give the national team more match practice in the shorter format ahead of major tournaments like the 2025 ACC Men’s Asia Cup and the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, both of which will be played in the T20 format.

Despite the PCB’s efforts and ongoing discussions, the CWI seems to have decided to stick with the original itinerary.

This means Pakistan will play the full three-match ODI series as initially planned, along with the three scheduled T20Is.

The T20Is are set to begin on July 31 (August 1 PST), followed by the ODIs on August 8, 10, and 12. If the proposal is accepted, the T20I leg could expand to five or even six matches, removing the ODIs altogether.

An official announcement confirming the unchanged schedule is expected soon, but as of now, the original plan remains in place.

Pakistan’s squad for the Caribbean would be announced in tandem with the team named for the Bangladesh series, streamlining preparations across formats.

For both Pakistan and West Indies, who are in transition and eager to sharpen their white-ball skills, the series will be an opportunity to test combinations and build momentum ahead of major tournaments.
