ISLAMABAD: (Sports Desk) – The West Indies secured a convincing 90-run victory over Pakistan in the first Test at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, successfully defending a target of 211 runs after dismissing the visitors for just 120.
Pakistan’s chase got off to a disastrous start as Azan Owais, Imam-ul-Haq and Salman Agha were dismissed without troubling the scorers. Shan Masood also managed only three runs, while Ali Usman contributed two and Khurram Shahzad added four. Amir Jamal and Mohammad Ali were both dismissed for ducks.
Captain Babar Azam fought a lone battle with an unbeaten 58, but received little support from the rest of the batting order. Eight Pakistani batters failed to reach double figures as the innings collapsed under pressure.
Speaking after the match, Babar Azam said Pakistan had played competitive cricket for most of the Test but failed to deliver with the bat on the final day. He acknowledged that the new ball created difficulties and the regular loss of wickets increased the pressure, adding that the 211-run target was achievable and the team would aim to bounce back in the second Test.
Earlier, the West Indies resumed the fourth day on 126-7 in their second innings before being bowled out for 181, setting Pakistan a victory target of 211.
For Pakistan, Mohammad Abbas starred with the ball by claiming five wickets, while Khurram Shahzad and Mohammad Ali picked up two wickets each.
In the first innings, the West Indies posted 311 runs before Pakistan replied with 282, leaving the hosts with a narrow advantage that proved decisive in the match.
