Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, 15, Loses Cool in On-Field Spat Against Sri Lanka
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Involved in On-Field Altercation After Super Over Defeat
Sri Lanka – (Web Desk) – Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made headlines for the wrong reasons after shoving a Sri Lanka A player following a tense Super Over defeat in Dambulla on Monday.
Sri Lanka A’s Vishen Halambage exchanged heated words with Indian batters as they walked off. Sooryavanshi responded and pushed him, as seen in broadcast footage circulated widely on social media.
Senior players stepped in quickly. Sri Lanka A captain Niroshan Dickwella separated the two and helped cool things down. Teammate Suryansh Shedge also pulled Sooryavanshi away from the confrontation.
Reports suggest the altercation was triggered by persistent sledging throughout the series. Sri Lanka A players reportedly told Sooryavanshi, “Go home, this is not IPL.” Some Sri Lankan players later reached out to apologise.
Both teams completed the post-match handshakes, but TV cameras caught Sooryavanshi still visibly angry as he walked off.
The incident came after an impressive IPL 2026 season where the young opener scored 776 runs for Rajasthan Royals, winning the Orange Cap, Most Valuable Player, and Emerging Player awards.
He is now set to join India’s senior squad for T20 matches against Ireland on June 26 and 28 in Belfast, followed by the England series starting July 1 in Chester-le-Street.
If selected, Sooryavanshi could become India’s youngest-ever international cricketer, breaking the record held by Sachin Tendulkar since 1989.
