US China List Goods for Potential Tariff Cuts

WASHINGTON (News Desk): The United States and China have released lists of goods that could qualify for reduced tariffs under a new trade arrangement covering around $30 billion worth of products in each direction, although the exact tariff rates and implementation timeline have not yet been announced.

US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping concluded a summit on Friday, where trade and other bilateral issues were discussed.

According to terms released by the White House, Washington and Beijing will review the respective lists with the aim of providing reduced tariff treatment to eligible goods on a reciprocal basis.

The United States could lower tariffs on 77 categories of Chinese products, including fireworks, Christmas decorations, household items and sports equipment.

China’s list covers more than 1,600 categories of American products, including beef, pork, poultry, seafood, grains, dairy products, whiskey, coal and timber.

The White House said on Friday that the two countries had reached an agreement on recommendations for more favorable tariff treatment for the listed “non-sensitive goods” following Xi’s visit to Washington. Beijing confirmed the agreement on Saturday.

Under the arrangement, China has also agreed to purchase at least 10 million metric tons of US coal during 2027 and 2028, according to the White House.

Trump and Xi had agreed to a broader trade truce last year during a meeting in South Korea, following a tit-for-tat tariff dispute in which duties on some goods rose above 100 percent.

The agreement was initially scheduled to expire in November, but the two sides have agreed to extend it until January 10, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said.
