UN blacklist sexual violence report Israel Hamas: Israel reacts strongly

UN blacklist sexual violence report Israel Hamas

UN – (Web Desk) – Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations has reacted strongly after reports that the UN blacklist sexual violence report Israel Hamas includes Israel alongside Hamas in a conflict-related sexual violence list. Danny Danon called the move “political” and claimed it is disconnected from facts and reality.

Danon said he was informed about the development during a call with UN Secretary-General António Guterres. He added that Israel rejects the allegations and believes it is being unfairly compared with Hamas.

The UN had previously warned both Israel and Russia that they could be added to the list if concerns over credible reports of sexual violence were confirmed. That warning came in an earlier annual report submitted to the UN Security Council.

Israel’s government has strongly denied all allegations. Officials said they provided detailed responses and invited UN representatives to investigate on the ground, but claim those offers were not taken up.

In response to the growing dispute, Israel’s foreign ministry announced it would cut ties with the UN Secretary-General’s office, calling the situation unacceptable.

UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said the Secretary-General’s office remains open to engagement with all member states, including Israel.

Hamas, which carried out the October 7, 2023 attack on southern Israel that triggered the Gaza war, has also been listed in connection with allegations of sexual violence. The group has rejected all accusations.
