UAE Awards Wynn Resorts First Commercial Gaming License

Wynn Resorts announced on Friday that it has received the first commercial gaming operator’s license in the United Arab Emirates from the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority.
The Las Vegas-based casino company is currently developing a luxury resort named Wynn Al Marjan Island in Ras Al Khaimah. This project, which is still under construction, is a collaboration between Wynn Resorts’ affiliates, Marjan, and RAK Hospitality Holding.
The government communications office of Ras Al Khaimah (RAKTDA) and RAK Hospitality Holding have not yet responded to requests for comment from Reuters.
Last month, the UAE established a federal agency to oversee gambling operations, appointing experienced professionals from the U.S. industry to manage it. This move marks a significant shift after years of speculation regarding the legalization of gambling in the conservative Gulf region.

The decision to allow gambling comes amid growing economic competition in the Gulf, particularly with Saudi Arabia. To maintain its status as the region’s trade, tourism, and financial hub, the UAE has recently introduced a series of liberal legal reforms.
