Tokyo – U.S. President Donald Trump has arrived in Tokyo ahead of his scheduled meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. During his visit, Trump is set to meet Japan’s Emperor Naruhito and newly elected Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

This marks Trump’s longest foreign trip to date, aimed at promoting trade agreements, investment, and defense cooperation across Asia. While in Malaysia, Trump oversaw a ceasefire agreement between Thailand and Cambodia and announced several trade deals.

The Asian tour will conclude on Thursday in South Korea, where Trump will meet Xi Jinping in a summit focused on preventing new trade disputes between the world’s two largest economies.

Japan has already pledged $550 billion in investment to the U.S., which is expected to result in the easing of some strict import tariffs on Japanese goods. Prime Minister Takaichi plans to further impress Trump by promising purchases of American cars, soybeans, and natural gas.

Before departing Malaysia, Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social, calling the country “vibrant and wonderful” and highlighting the signing of major trade deals and the Thailand-Cambodia peace agreement. He added, “Millions of lives saved! Now off to Japan!”

Ahead of Trump’s arrival in Tokyo, thousands of police officers have been deployed to ensure security. Prime Minister Takaichi emphasized in a recent phone call that strengthening the U.S.-Japan alliance remains her “top priority.”
