Trump Demands Iran Nuclear Deal Amid Rising Global Tensions

Diplomatic Talks Stall Amid Escalating U.S.-Iran Tensions

WASHINGTON/TEHRAN: (Web Desk) – Former U.S. President Donald Trump has warned Iran to “get smart soon” and accept Washington’s demands for strict nuclear oversight, as escalating tensions and a naval blockade continue to strain the Iranian economy and global energy markets.

Trump, posting on his social media platform, criticized Tehran’s leadership and shared an AI-generated image of himself holding a rifle against a backdrop of explosions, accompanied by the slogan “No more Mr. Nice Guy,” signaling a tougher stance on Iran.

According to U.S. officials, Trump also discussed with oil industry executives the possibility of extending the naval blockade for several more months, while exploring ways to minimize the impact on American consumers. The meeting reportedly included senior figures from the energy sector at the White House.

The standoff has pushed global oil prices higher once again, with Brent crude rising over 5% to around $117 per barrel — its highest level since a fragile ceasefire earlier in April.

Meanwhile, humanitarian concerns are growing. The United Nations Development Programme warned that the ongoing conflict and energy disruptions could push more than 30 million people into poverty across 160 countries, calling the situation “development in reverse.”

The Iranian currency has also collapsed to record lows, reflecting deepening economic pressure. Inside Iran, public frustration is rising, with residents describing worsening living conditions and distrust in ongoing negotiations.

Trump Urges Iran Deal as Regional Tensions Rise

Iranian officials, however, insist they remain prepared for continued confrontation. Military representatives stated that the war is not over and warned of new defensive capabilities if hostilities resume.

Diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis remain stalled. Reports suggest recent Iranian proposals, involving mediation through Pakistan, included conditional easing of Strait of Hormuz restrictions in exchange for partial relief from U.S. measures, but no agreement has been reached.

Regional instability has also expanded beyond Iran, with Lebanon witnessing continued violence despite a ceasefire. Lebanese authorities reported casualties among military personnel following Israeli strikes, raising fears of renewed escalation in the region.

International actors, including Qatar, have warned that failure to reach a political settlement could lead to a prolonged “frozen conflict” with widespread humanitarian and economic consequences.
