Trump Urges Iran Deal as Regional Tensions Rise

Shipping Through Hormuz Falls Amid US-Iran Standoff

WASHINGTON: (Web Desk) – U.S. President Donald Trump has urged Iran to “get smart” and move forward with a nuclear agreement, intensifying his rhetoric amid ongoing geopolitical tensions. In a post on Truth Social, Trump criticized Tehran, stating that Iran “can’t get their act together” and “better get smart soon” to avoid further escalation.

He also shared an AI-generated image depicting himself holding a rifle with explosions in the background, accompanied by the caption “No more Mr Nice Guy,” signaling a tougher stance in his messaging.

Meanwhile, shipping activity in the Strait of Hormuz has dropped significantly over the past 24 hours as diplomatic talks between the U.S. and Iran remain stalled. According to reports, only 10 vessels passed through the strategic waterway, reflecting growing uncertainty in the region.

In Washington, Trump met with major oil and gas industry executives, including Chevron CEO Mike Wirth, along with senior officials such as Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and other advisers. Discussions reportedly focused on the economic impact of the Iran conflict, domestic energy production, oil markets, and global supply disruptions.

Separately, the Iranian rial has fallen to a historic low against the U.S. dollar amid ongoing pressure linked to the naval blockade and regional instability. On the black market, the currency has weakened to around 1.80 million rials per dollar, compared to about 1.70 million at the start of the conflict.

In the Middle East, tensions remain high as Lebanon continues to face Israeli airstrikes despite a fragile ceasefire agreement. Lebanese authorities reported that one soldier and his brother were killed in a strike in southern Lebanon, while multiple other attacks in recent days have caused civilian and military casualties.

Lebanon’s leadership has condemned the continued strikes, calling them violations of the ceasefire, while Israel maintains that its actions target imminent threats. The situation continues to escalate fears of broader regional instability.
