Sukkur: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) of Sukkur, led by Judge Abdul Rehman Qazi, delivered its verdict in the high-profile murder case of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) leader Dr. Khalid Mehmood Soomro. The court sentenced six individuals to life imprisonment, finding them guilty of murder and terrorism charges. Additionally, the accused were handed a seven-year sentence for the illegal possession of weapons.
The convicted individuals—Hanif Bhutto, Mushtaq Mehr, Altaf Jamali, Latif Jamali, Sarang Totani, and Darya Khan Jamali—have been incarcerated in Sukkur Central Jail since 2014.
Following the announcement, Maulana Rashid Mehmood Soomro, a senior JUI leader and relative of the victim, expressed dissatisfaction with the verdict. “The punishment should have been death for the proven crime. We will approach the High Court for justice,” he said. “This is incomplete justice. We will continue our efforts to secure justice peacefully and ensure that peace prevails.”
