South Waziristan Mortar Attack Kills Three, Wounds Four

South Waziristan – (Web Desk) – A South Waziristan mortar attack claimed three lives, including two young girls, and left four people wounded late Saturday night in Birmal Tehsil.

Police said the shell struck a residential house in the Lower South Waziristan area around 11:20 pm, catching the family completely off guard.

The house belonged to a local resident named Muhammad Gul. His 15-year-old daughter along with two young girls, Gulnaza Bibi, 9, and Bashro Bana, 6, lost their lives in the attack.

Gul’s wife and his three sons, aged 22, 13, and 4, were also hurt. They were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Wana for treatment.

Police have not yet confirmed where the shell came from or what it was aimed at. Officials say more details are still being gathered.

Local media outlets reported that the shell may have been dropped using a quadcopter drone, a method that has been used in similar attacks before.

Residents say nearby areas, including Azam Warsak, Guldona Ghundai, Karmazi, Staff, and Kalotai, have also witnessed drone-related incidents in recent months.

Authorities have previously pointed to militant groups, particularly the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, for using modified commercial drones to carry out attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

South Waziristan remains one of the most unstable regions in Pakistan, where security forces regularly clash with militant groups operating in the area.
