Authorities Take Action Against Negligence in Illegal Tire Burning Factory Operation

SHEIKHUPURA: A tragic incident occurred in Sheikhupura on December 16, when a boiler exploded at a tyre oil extraction factory, resulting in the deaths of six workers.

The explosion took place at an illegal factory on Narowal Road, where workers were carrying out their duties. One worker was killed instantly in the blast, and seven others were seriously injured. The injured workers were rushed to the hospital by Rescue 1122, where five of them succumbed to severe burn injuries after being hospitalized for five days, bringing the death toll to six.

Deputy Commissioner Shahid Imran Marth confirmed that the factory was extracting black oil by burning tyres, which is an illegal practice. Following the incident, authorities took action against the negligence that led to this disaster. The Assistant Enforcement Inspector Safdar and district muharar Muhammad Asghar were suspended for failing to take action against the illegal operation.

This incident follows a similar tragedy in Karachi, where two people lost their lives due to a boiler explosion and subsequent fire at a factory in Port Qasim. These incidents highlight the dangerous working conditions faced by Pakistan’s labor class, underscoring the need for better safety measures in industrial workplaces.
