Sindh High Court Reviews Suspension of Social Media Platform X
Criticism over different lawyers handling petitions, leading to conflicting information. Next Steps
The Sindh High Court (SHC) recently held a hearing regarding petitions challenging the nationwide suspension of the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, in Pakistan.
During the session, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) confirmed that it had rescinded the notification that had led to the platform’s suspension.
Saad Siddiqui, representing the PTA, informed the court that the earlier directive to shut down X had been withdrawn. The court then asked if this meant that access to the platform had been fully restored.
However, Moeez Jafri, the lawyer for the petitioners, noted that despite the notification being withdrawn, users were still unable to access X.

The court emphasized that with no active notification enforcing the closure, access to the platform should be reinstated. Another PTA lawyer, however, stated that he lacked information about the specific withdrawal details.
The court criticized the PTA for assigning different lawyers to handle various petitions, as it resulted in inconsistent information being provided. The hearing on the remaining applications related to the closure of X was adjourned for two weeks.
