Shamoon Abbasi Highlights Quality Gaps in Pakistani Content

Actor Shamoon Abbasi Explains Why Netflix Has Not Widely Acquired Pakistani Content

KARACHI: (Showbiz Desk) – Pakistani actor and filmmaker Shamoon Abbasi has spoken about the challenges facing the country’s entertainment industry, saying technical and production quality gaps remain a major reason why Pakistani content has not secured a wider presence on global streaming platforms such as Netflix.

Shamoon said international streaming platforms follow strict quality standards, and Pakistan’s productions still need improvements to compete at the same level. He explained that meeting global benchmarks requires stronger attention to technical areas, including HDR workflows, colour grading, colour science and sound mixing.

The actor also rejected the view that simply launching local OTT platforms would resolve the challenges faced by Pakistan’s entertainment industry. According to him, improving production standards and adopting international technical practices are essential for local content to gain wider global recognition.

Recalling his experience with Netflix aggregators in 2017, Shamoon said he was provided with a detailed list of technical requirements that productions needed to fulfil before being considered for the platform.

He further claimed that a Pakistani drama commissioned by Netflix nearly four years ago has yet to be released because the production continues to undergo reviews to meet the platform’s required technical standards.

Previously, other Pakistani media personalities, including Faysal Qureshi, have also shared their views on Netflix’s content selection process and the challenges faced by local productions seeking international distribution.
