Scissors Left Inside Patient During Faisalabad Heart Surgery

Medical Negligence Reported At Faisalabad Institute Of Cardiology Hospital

ISLAMAABAD: (Web Desk) – A major case of alleged medical negligence has surfaced at Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology after surgical scissors were reportedly left inside the body of a 21-year-old patient during an open-heart surgery procedure.

According to reports, the patient, identified as Talqeen, had to undergo a second surgery nearly three weeks later to remove the instrument after experiencing health complications following the initial operation.

Health Department Issues Alert Over Unsafe Drug Batches

Medical Superintendent Dr Nadeem confirmed that the original heart surgery was carried out by Dr Zaigham Abbas and his surgical team. Hospital authorities became aware of the issue after the patient’s condition worsened, leading to an internal investigation.

The inquiry reportedly found that the negligence occurred because surgical staff failed to properly count the medical instruments after the procedure. Officials stated that the lapse resulted in the scissors remaining inside the patient’s body.

Following the investigation, the two staff nurses involved in the case were referred to the health secretary for further action. Dr Zaigham Abbas was formally warned, while hospital administration stated that any future negligence could lead to disciplinary proceedings under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability Act.

The incident has raised serious concerns regarding patient safety standards and surgical oversight procedures at the hospital.
