Saqlain Mushtaq Set to Become Pakistan’s New Head Coach
Saqlain Mushtaq to Lead Pakistan's Rebuilding Efforts Ahead of 2026 T20 World Cup

Lahore – Former Pakistan off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq is expected to take over as the national cricket team’s head coach, following a meeting with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, sources confirmed on Saturday.
The PCB is looking to stabilize the team after a disappointing performance in the ICC Champions Trophy, where Pakistan failed to win a single game. With senior players under scrutiny, the board is also considering introducing fresh talent ahead of the upcoming tour of New Zealand.
Saqlain, who previously served as Pakistan’s head coach, had initially declined the role before the Champions Trophy due to concerns over team selection, particularly regarding the role of all-rounder Shadab Khan. However, he has now agreed to take on the responsibility and is expected to assume his duties before Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand, scheduled from March 16 to April 5, where the team will play five T20Is and three ODIs.
With his expertise in spin bowling and coaching experience, Saqlain is expected to play a key role in rebuilding the team as they prepare for upcoming international challenges, including the 2026 T20 World Cup.
