Sahibzada Farhan Named Pakistan Asian Games Captain
Sahibzada Farhan Asian Games Captain Role Confirmed as PCB Names 15-Man T20 Squad for Japan
The Pakistan Cricket Board has named Sahibzada Farhan Asian Games captain for the men’s T20 tournament at the 2026 Asian Games. The event will be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 24 to October 3.
Farhan is one of Pakistan’s most experienced T20 openers. He has played 46 T20 Internationals and scored 1,305 runs, including two centuries and ten half-centuries. He was also the top run-scorer at the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Abdul Samad has been named vice-captain for the tournament. Samad has five T20I caps to his name and was part of the recent ODI series against Australia.
The 15-man squad includes four uncapped players — Akif Javed, Ali Raza, Maaz Sadaqat, and Saad Masood. All four will be hoping to earn their first T20I cap during the tournament.
Big names like Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and regular captain Salman Agha have not been selected. The PCB appears focused on giving younger talent a chance on the big stage.
A total of 10 teams will compete for the gold medal, including India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan. Pakistan finished fourth in the 2023 Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China.
Fourteen players from the squad will attend a training camp at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore starting June 15.
Full Squad: Sahibzada Farhan (captain), Abdul Samad (vice-captain), Abrar Ahmed, Ahmed Daniyal, Akif Javed, Ali Raza, Arafat Minhas, Haider Ali, Hasan Nawaz, Maaz Sadaqat, Mohammad Salman Mirza, Saad Masood, Saim Ayub, Sufyan Moqim, Usman Khan (wicket-keeper).
