MOSCOW: (Web Desk) – Russia has carried out a successful test of its latest Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile, with President Vladimir Putin announcing that the nuclear-capable weapon is expected to officially join military service before the end of the year.
According to international media reports, the successful missile launch was confirmed during a briefing presented to Putin by Sergei Karakayev, commander of Russia’s Strategic Missile Forces.
Putin described the Sarmat missile as the most powerful nuclear missile in the world, claiming it can hit targets located thousands of miles away across the United States and Europe. He further stated that the missile carries a warhead payload significantly larger than comparable Western systems and can travel beyond 35,000 kilometres.

The Russian president also claimed that the missile is capable of bypassing both current and future missile defence technologies developed by rival nations.
Karakayev said the deployment of Sarmat-equipped launch systems would greatly improve Russia’s strategic military strength and support the country’s long-term defence goals.
Known in Western countries as “Satan II,” the Sarmat missile is a major part of Russia’s ongoing nuclear weapons modernisation programme and is intended to replace ageing Soviet-era missile systems.
