The agenda is expected to focus on regional stability, multilateral cooperation, and strengthening global economic governance frameworks. BRICS is widely regarded as a major bloc of emerging economies seeking to reshape global political and financial structures.
During the visit, Araghchi is also expected to hold bilateral talks with India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, along with other senior officials and participating foreign ministers. The New Delhi meeting is being seen as a preparatory step toward the 18th BRICS Summit scheduled for September in India under its presidency.
Maritime Tensions Escalate
Separately, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has announced an expansion of its operational maritime zone following recent tensions involving the United States and Israel.
IRGC officials stated that the previously defined operational range of 20 to 30 miles has now been extended to between 200 and 300 miles, approximately 500 kilometers, marking a significant strategic adjustment.
The expanded zone reportedly stretches from coastal areas including Jask and Siri to beyond Greater Tunb Island, effectively broadening Iran’s operational reach in and around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping corridor.
