Russia Questions US Neutrality In Ukraine Conflict

Russia Criticizes US Role In Ukraine Peace Efforts

MOSCOW: (Web Desk) – Russia has accused the United States of abandoning its role as a neutral mediator in efforts to end the war in Ukraine, while also criticizing European nations for expanding military spending and strengthening their defense capabilities.

Speaking to foreign diplomats in Moscow on Tuesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Washington’s recent actions indicate that it is no longer acting as an impartial broker in the conflict. He argued that the United States is instead increasing pressure on Russia through sanctions and other measures.

Lavrov’s remarks come amid stalled U.S.-led diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Despite earlier pledges by U.S. President Donald Trump to seek a resolution to the war, negotiations have made limited progress as both sides remain divided over key issues.

Ukraine has continued to reject Russian demands that include territorial concessions, restrictions on its military capabilities, and limits on support from Western allies. The conflict, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, has resulted in heavy casualties and widespread displacement.

Moscow has also intensified its criticism of European countries for increasing defense expenditures and military preparedness. Russian President Vladimir Putin said Western governments are openly preparing for potential confrontation and significantly expanding their military budgets.

Addressing newly commissioned military and law enforcement officers, Putin claimed that Europe’s rearmament efforts demonstrate a growing readiness for conflict. He also reiterated Russia’s position that Ukraine should withdraw from the eastern Donbas region and stated that Russian forces were making advances near the strategically important town of Kostiantynivka.

The Russian leader further accused Ukraine of carrying out attacks on Russian infrastructure with support from Western nations. His comments followed recent strikes that reportedly targeted key facilities inside Russia, including an attack that caused a fire at an oil refinery near Moscow.

The latest statements highlight the continued tensions between Russia and the West as diplomatic efforts to end the war remain deadlocked and military operations continue on both sides.
