Russia Launches Major Airstrikes on Kyiv After Prisoner Exchange; 12 Killed, Dozens Injured

Fresh Strikes Amid Ceasefire Pressure Heighten Global Concern Over Ukraine

Kyiv: Russia carried out a major air assault on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, for the second consecutive day, killing at least 12 people and injuring more than 18, including three children, according to international media reports.

British news agency sources confirmed that the attacks early Sunday morning involved a barrage of missiles and drones, causing severe damage to residential buildings and infrastructure. Air raid sirens blared for hours, and residents were urged to remain in shelters overnight.

Ukraine’s air force stated that the strikes targeted multiple cities across the country, though Kyiv remained the primary focus. The assault included a combination of drones, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles, marking one of the most intense waves of attacks in recent weeks.

The escalation comes shortly after a major prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine. On Saturday, over 600 captured soldiers were released as part of the second phase of the exchange, following the release of approximately 800 prisoners on Friday.
