Roti Price Hiked by Rs5 as Inflation Hits

Price Increase for Roti Implemented Based on Price Review Committee's Advice, Says District Admin

The district administration has announced a Rs5 increase in the price of roti, according to a notification from the deputy commissioner of Peshawar.

Under the new rates, a 125-gram roti will now cost Rs20, up from the previous price of Rs15 for a 120-gram roti. The updated prices have been implemented immediately throughout the district.

The price hike was introduced based on recommendations from the Price Review Committee, which attributed the increase to the rising cost of flour.

Locally, naanbai have noted that the cost of an 80kg bag of flour has surged from Rs7,000 to Rs8,900, necessitating the price adjustment.

Despite the price increase, naanbai express concerns that they are still operating at a loss due to higher ingredient costs. “Even with the new prices, we are still facing financial losses,” said one tandoor owner, underscoring ongoing difficulties in the industry.

Recently, Peshawar experienced another price hike, this time for live chicken, which has now reached Rs440 per kilogram. This sharp increase has led to reduced sales and increased financial strain on consumers, who are struggling with inflation. Shopkeepers have reported a significant drop in sales, with only hotel owners continuing to buy chicken in bulk. “Inflation has made chicken unaffordable for ordinary citizens,” noted a local shopkeeper.
