RISJA Elects New Leadership Unopposed, Reflecting Unity Among Sports Journalists
New RISJA Leadership Vows Support for Sports Journalists’ Rights
ISLAMABAD – In a strong display of unity and mutual trust, the Rawalpindi Islamabad Sports Journalists Association (RISJA) has elected its new office bearers unopposed for the upcoming term. The peaceful and unanimous election underscores the solidarity among RISJA’s 59 active members.
The electoral process was conducted under the supervision of Election Committee Chairman Shahryar Khan, with Asim Jilani and Rana Farhan Aslam as committee members. The results were officially announced following a transparent and consensus-based process.

The RISJA Executive Body (Rawalpindi chapter) now includes Faheem Anwar Khan, Afzal Javed, Zahid Farooq Malik, Nasir Aslam Raja, Zeeshan Qayyum, Sohail Raja, Arfa Feroz Zaki, Kiran Khan, Awais Abbasi, and Farhan Jafri.
Veteran journalists Abdul Mohi Shah and Malik Shakeel Awan have been named as Patron and Chairman, respectively.
Leadership Promises Commitment to Journalistic Excellence
In their remarks following the announcement, newly elected President Abubakar Bin Tallat and Secretary Arslan Shirazi thanked RISJA members for their confidence. They reaffirmed the association’s commitment to professional development, press freedom, and the rights of dedicated sports journalists.
National Press Club and RIUJ Extend Congratulations
Leaders from the journalistic community, including Azhar Jatoi (President, National Press Club), Shiraz Gerdazi (Secretary, NPC), Waqar Abbasi (Finance Secretary, NPC), and Tariq Virk (President, RIUJ), extended their congratulations to the new office bearers. They expressed optimism that RISJA would continue to play a pivotal role in strengthening sports journalism in the twin cities.
Founded in 1986, RISJA remains the only registered body dedicated to promoting sports journalism and supporting sports journalists in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
