MOSCOW: (News Desk) – Russian President Vladimir Putin has praised Iran’s so-called “Mosquito Fleet” of small, high-speed naval vessels, saying the boats have shown effectiveness in combat operations due to modern technology and advanced weapons.
According to Russia’s state news agency Sputnik, Putin made the remarks during a meeting with Russian naval officers while discussing developments in the Middle East conflict.
“Look at what is happening in the Middle East conflict zone. Iran has made its combat operations quite effective by using its Mosquito Fleet,” Putin was quoted as saying.
The Russian president described the fleet as an example of how smaller naval platforms equipped with advanced weapons can play a significant role in modern warfare. He added that Russia also operates similar small vessels that combine reduced size with modern military capabilities.
According to reports, Iran’s Mosquito Fleet includes Ghadir-class small submarines and thousands of fast attack boats designed for coastal operations.
The vessels are reportedly capable of operating close to Iran’s coastline and can be concealed in specially constructed tunnels in rocky coastal areas, potentially making them more difficult to target with long-range weapons.
