Putin Backs Trump for Nobel, US-Russia Talks Continue Over Ukraine

While leaked peace plans and proposals are under discussion, no compromise has been reached yet.

MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin has endorsed former US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, despite no resolution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict so far. Analysts are examining why Russia favors Trump over Joe Biden and whether recent peace initiatives have any chance of success.

In an interview with Russian Consul General Andrey V. Fedorov in Karachi, he highlighted the first-year dynamics of US-Russia relations under Trump, noting a willingness to revisit past policies and pursue dialogue. Despite trade rising by over 20%, economic cooperation remains limited due to sanctions, though joint projects in space, nuclear arms, and scientific research continue.

Fedorov emphasized that strategic talks, including the Alaska summit and meetings with US envoys, have opened channels for negotiation, though European countries are reportedly undermining peace efforts. Russia maintains that any long-term settlement requires addressing root causes of the conflict, restoring a fair security balance in Europe, and respecting the rights of Russian-speaking populations in Ukraine.

While leaked peace plans and proposals are under discussion, no compromise has been reached yet. Both sides continue working through diplomatic channels, with detailed negotiations expected to continue before any agreement is finalized.
