Punjab reviewing proposals regarding summer vacations in schools
Final decision on Punjab school vacations expected soon
LAHORE: (Web Desk) – The Punjab government has not yet finalized a decision regarding summer vacations in schools across the province, according to Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat.
Speaking on the matter, the minister said that several proposals related to school holidays are currently under review, and a final decision is expected within the next few days.
Rana Sikandar Hayat explained that the government is considering three to four different options regarding the duration and timing of summer vacations in educational institutions throughout Punjab.
Earlier in April, the education minister had addressed growing speculation surrounding the 2026 summer break and clarified that no official decision would be announced before May.

He revealed that the provincial government is evaluating a proposal to reduce summer vacations by 15 to 20 days in an effort to compensate for educational losses and improve academic performance.
According to the minister, authorities are planning to increase the number of teaching days in the academic calendar from 180 to 190 to ensure the timely completion of syllabuses in schools.
He further stated that proposals are also being considered to reduce winter holidays by five to six days alongside shorter summer vacations to strengthen the overall academic schedule.
The government is expected to announce its final policy on school vacations after reviewing all recommendations and educational requirements.
