Punjab Orders Private Schools to Ensure Free Education Quota

LAHORE: (Staff Reporter) – The Punjab Assembly Standing Committee on School Education has raised concerns over the non-implementation of the legal requirement requiring private schools to provide free education to 10 percent of enrolled children.

The committee directed the School Education Department to ensure compliance with the policy within 10 days and ordered strict action against institutions that fail to meet the requirement.

During a meeting, the committee stated that licenses of private schools refusing to provide the mandatory 10 percent free education quota should be cancelled. It also instructed the department to directly identify and enroll deserving students instead of relying solely on information provided by schools.

The committee further emphasized that the School Education Department should independently verify school records to ensure transparency and accurate implementation of the policy.

The department assured the committee that it would collect updated data from all private schools regarding the 10 percent free education initiative and take necessary steps to ensure that eligible children receive free education without exception.
