Punjab Braces for Flood Risk as PDMA Issues Severe Weather Warning
In 2024, the monsoon rains have caused significant damage, resulting in 84 civilian fatalities, 224 injuries, and 245 houses being affected. The deaths were attributed to lightning strikes, electrocution, and the collapse of mud houses and deteriorating structures. Additionally, 44 livestock have perished due to the rains. Of the affected homes, 100 were completely destroyed and 145 sustained partial damage.
The PDMA Director General announced that financial assistance is being provided to the affected families in line with government policies, and injured individuals are receiving top medical care.
According to the PDMA spokesperson, there is a low-level flood situation in Tarbela, Kalabagh, and Chashma along the Indus River, and significant flooding is occurring in Tunsa. Meanwhile, water levels in the Chenab, Ravi, Sutlej, and Jhelum rivers are normal.

The Mangla Dam is currently at 70% capacity, and Tarbela Dam is at 99% capacity. Water flow remains normal in Dera Ghazi Khan Rudkohis, and the Narowal Nala Basantar is experiencing a low-level flood. Indian dams on the Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi rivers have water levels at 54%, as reported by the PDMA.
