Teachers to Receive Awards as Punjab Tightens School Performance Monitoring
LAHORE: (Staff Reporter) – The Punjab School Education Department (SED) has issued directives regarding the performance of schools in the Class 9 annual examinations conducted by the Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISEs) across the province, 24NewsHD TV channel reported Monday.
According to a notification issued by the department, a dual system of recognition and accountability will be implemented across all 36 districts of Punjab based on students’ examination results.
Under the policy, teachers whose students secure more than 80 percent marks will be encouraged and awarded special badges and certificates of appreciation.
Head teachers, teachers and students whose performance results in marks ranging from 60 to 79 percent will also receive certificates of appreciation from the School Education Department.
The department further stated that cases involving head teachers and BS-17 subject teachers would be referred to the relevant department for further action where required.
The directive, addressed to all Chief Executive Officers of District Education Authorities (DEAs), also calls for formal disciplinary inquiries against head teachers and subject teachers whose schools record pass rates below 20 percent.
Such proceedings will be conducted under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability Act, 2006.
The department has directed the concerned authorities to submit an action taken report to the Director of Public Instruction within 15 days.
