Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday said that the country is being governed by law of the jungle while pinning hopes on the judiciary.
The former premier took to his Twitter account after PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi was rearrested from outside Adiala Jail minutes after his release. We are now being governed by law of the jungle, might is right and the only thing standing in its way is our judiciary,” Imran said.
In the written response, the former prime minister noted that the £190 million received from the National Crime Agency (NCA) was present in the Supreme Court’s account. “No personal benefit of any kind was taken from this amount,” he claimed.
“Allegations of corruption by NAB are fabricated, baseless and malicious,” the former premier stated. He also denied that he or his wife had benefitted monetarily as Al-Qadir trustees.
Earlier in the day, the former prime minister termed the exodus of party members as ‘forced divorces’.
The ex-premier took to his Twitter account after two PTI leaders quit the party on Tuesday, including former human rights minister Shireen Mazari.
And it is being speculated that more are yet to come.
Earlier, during his appearance before the ATC in Islamabad, he said, “People are not leaving the party on their own, they are being forced to do so, and that too at gunpoint”.
However, he maintained he was not bothered by the several key PTI leaders who have in recent days called it quits, saying that “parties never die down like that; they are weeded out like the [ruling coalition] PDM is eroding, the way their vote bank is depleting.”
“I am only worried about the workers and especially the women,” he added.
