Israel’s approval of 34 West Bank settlements raises Palestinian alarm

Families in the West Bank fear losing their land as Israel quietly approves dozens of new settlements and violence from settlers continues to grow.

West Bank vs Israel – (Web Desk) – Israel has approved 34 new settlements in the occupied West Bank. Palestinian residents are now deeply worried that their land will soon be taken away.

The anti-settlement group Peace Now revealed the news. They said the security cabinet made this decision secretly on April 1. No government body has officially announced it. The defence ministry refused to answer any questions about it.

This is not the first time. Since Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu came to power in 2022, his government has already approved 68 other settlements. These 34 are on top of that.

Out of the 34 new settlements, 10 already exist as illegal outposts. They are illegal even under Israeli law. But they will now be made legal under this new decision. The remaining 24 settlements have not been built yet. All of them break international law.

In the small Palestinian village of Deir Ammar, people are scared. About a year ago, settlers moved into a hilltop near their village. Residents believe that spot is on the list of newly approved settlements.

Farmer Nael Mussa has seen his chicken farm attacked multiple times by settlers. He told AFP he is frightened about what comes next. “We are effectively finished. If this becomes a settlement, we are finished in Deir Ammar. We will have no land left at all,” the 54 year old said.

Another farmer, Ismail Awdeh, shared the same fear. He said the land around his village feeds the whole community. “This land is considered the food basket of the village,” he said. He worries it will all be gone soon.
