PTI Chairman Requests Meeting with Imprisoned Founder

Barrister Gohar Ali Khan seeks dialogue with detained PTI leader amid security concerns

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has officially reached out to the government, requesting a meeting with the PTI founder, who is currently detained.

In a statement released by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, it was noted that Barrister Khan submitted his request in a letter directed to Federal Minister of Interior, Mohsin Naqvi. The letter emphasized the necessity for direct dialogue with the imprisoned PTI leader.

The spokesperson also mentioned that Barrister Gohar Ali had previously discussed the matter over the phone with the Interior Minister, reiterating his desire for the meeting. The Interior Minister assured him that the request would be given thorough consideration.

However, no definitive response has been communicated regarding the possibility of the meeting taking place. The spokesperson indicated that various challenges are influencing the decision, particularly the security implications and the preparations for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit.

“Due to the SCO Summit and related security concerns, there is currently a ban on meetings with all prisoners in the facility,” the spokesperson explained.

The Ministry also highlighted the importance of maintaining fairness in policy, noting that permitting Barrister Gohar Ali to meet with the PTI leader while other inmates remain unable to do so could foster perceptions of unequal treatment. “Allowing one prisoner to have a meeting while denying others would create an impression of double standards,” the spokesperson emphasized.

As of now, the Ministry of Interior has not issued a final decision on the request, leaving it uncertain whether Barrister Gohar Ali Khan will be able to meet with the PTI founder in the near future.
