PPSC Removes Academic Marks from Merit Criteria

The new policy will take effect from January 1, 2026, creating a uniform and standardized selection process for all candidates.

LAHORE: The Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) has introduced a significant reform in its recruitment process by eliminating the weightage of academic marks from merit calculations — a move aimed at ensuring greater transparency and fairness.

PPSC Chairman Lt. Gen. (retd) Muhammad Abdul Aziz announced that, under the new policy, candidates’ merit will now be determined solely based on their performance in the PPSC examination and interview, with written test scores carrying the most importance.

The commission has also decided to discontinue the practice of awarding additional marks for research work and non-medical experience.

According to PPSC officials, the new policy will take effect from January 1, 2026, creating a uniform and standardized selection process for all candidates. The decision was approved during a meeting of the full commission, following recommendations from the Reform Committee headed by former Inspector General and commission member Arif Nawaz Khan.
