
Power sector sees Rs1,065bn debt reduction milestone
Rs856bn debt fall brings major relief in June
Government-Pakistan- (Special Correspondent/Web desk) The power sector’s circular debt has fallen sharply, dropping by Rs1,065 billion in the first 16 months of the current government, official documents reveal. The biggest improvement came in June 2025, when the debt was slashed by a record Rs856 billion compared to May. By the end of June, total circular debt stood at Rs1,614 billion.
Documents from the Power Division show that by February 2024, the country’s circular debt had climbed to Rs2,679 billion. However, by the end of May 2025, the figure had come down to Rs2,470 billion.Pakistani cueist Muhammad Asif advances into semi-final of 12th World Games
During the last financial year, the power sector managed to cut its circular debt by Rs779 billion. By the close of June 2024, the total debt stood at Rs2,393 billion.
