Police Kill Armed Attacker Outside Jhelum Religious Academy Incident

Police said the attacker entered the premises of the academy

Jhelum: (Web Desk) – In Jhelum, an armed attacker who opened fire at Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza’s Quran Research Academy was killed in retaliatory action by police, according to officials. The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the City Police Station near GTS Chowk.

Police said the attacker entered the premises of the academy, where Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza was present for a lecture, and opened fire using a 9mm pistol. Security personnel responded immediately, leading to an exchange of fire in which the assailant was killed on the spot.

Authorities confirmed that Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza remained unharmed during the attack. However, a police constable from his security detail was injured, sustaining a gunshot wound to the leg. The injured officer was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Jhelum, where his condition was reported to be stable and out of danger.

Senior police officials, including SSP Chaudhry Shafiq, said that a heavy police contingent reached the scene shortly after the incident to secure the area and begin investigations. The identity of the attacker has not yet been confirmed, and assistance from the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) is being sought for identification.

Police spokesperson Kashif Kiani stated that the investigation is ongoing and security around the academy has been further strengthened following the incident.
