PMD Forecasts Fresh Monsoon Spell Across Pakistan from Tuesday

ISLAMABAD: (Staff Reporter) – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a fresh spell of monsoon rains from July 29, warning that heavy downpours could affect large parts of the country and increase the risk of urban flooding in several areas.

According to the PMD, the new weather system is expected to enter Pakistan on July 29, bringing widespread rainfall to Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The department said the first week of August is likely to witness the heaviest rainfall of the current monsoon season, prompting concerns over possible flooding and weather-related disruptions.

Deputy Director of the Meteorological Department Irfan Virk said Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and the Potohar region are also expected to receive heavy rain during the upcoming spell.

He added that Sindh and Balochistan are likely to experience torrential rainfall as the monsoon system expands its influence across much of the country.

The PMD has cautioned that intense rainfall could trigger urban flooding in vulnerable cities and urged the relevant authorities to remain on high alert and implement precautionary measures to minimise potential damage and protect public safety.
