PM Shehbaz Sharif Offers Sympathies to Malaysian PM Over Devastating Floods

This reaffirmed the commitment to enhancing ties between the two countries during these challenging times.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has extended heartfelt condolences to the Malaysian people following the devastating floods caused by torrential rains in several Malaysian states. In a telephonic conversation with Malaysian Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Saturday, PM Shehbaz expressed his deepest sympathies on behalf of the people of Pakistan for the loss of lives and widespread damage to property.

During the conversation, Prime Minister Shehbaz assured his Malaysian counterpart that the people of Pakistan stand in solidarity with Malaysia during this challenging time. He praised the Malaysian government for its swift and effective response to the disaster and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to support Malaysia in any way possible. The Pakistani Prime Minister announced the immediate dispatch of humanitarian aid to assist the flood victims.

The two leaders also discussed the positive progress in bilateral relations, particularly following Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to Pakistan in October 2024. PM Shehbaz expressed satisfaction over the resolution of several trade issues raised during the visit and emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two nations in areas of mutual interest.

In his message, the Malaysian Prime Minister thanked Pakistan for its generous support, acknowledging the solidarity between the two countries. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim shared his appreciation for the offer of assistance and noted the devastating impact the floods had on over 140,000 Malaysians. He extended an invitation for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to visit Malaysia in early 2025 to further enhance bilateral ties.

Additionally, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and destruction caused by the floods. On social media, Ishaq Dar conveyed Pakistan’s heartfelt condolences, saying, “The people of Pakistan are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life and destruction resulting from the devastating floods in Malaysia. Our sincerest sympathies and prayers are with the victims and their families. Pakistan is ready to extend all possible support to the recovery effort.”

The two leaders also agreed to continue high-level visits and collaboration, with plans for a visit to Kuala Lumpur by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other Pakistani officials in early 2025. This reaffirmed the commitment to enhancing ties between the two countries during these challenging times.
