PM Shehbaz Orders Long-Term Reforms for Economic Expansion
The prime minister said increasing domestic production and expanding exports remain among the government's top priorities
ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed all ministries to engage experts in integrating modern technologies across various sectors of the economy, emphasizing that innovation and investment are essential for Pakistan’s long-term economic development.
Chairing a high-level meeting to review policy reforms aimed at boosting investment and economic growth, the prime minister said that the promotion of industry, skilled trades, and foreign investment was crucial for strengthening the national economy.
Shehbaz Sharif stressed the importance of sectoral reforms, industrial expansion, and increased foreign investment to ensure sustainable economic progress. He noted that long-term economic policies should remain focused on public welfare and national prosperity.
The prime minister said increasing domestic production and expanding exports remain among the government’s top priorities. He emphasized that industrial development should not only enhance local manufacturing but also contribute significantly to export growth.
Directing authorities to formulate reforms with a long-term perspective, he said policies in the industrial, commercial, and economic sectors should be designed to maximize economic benefits and improve public welfare.
The premier also highlighted the government’s efforts to develop a comprehensive strategy to meet future energy demands through alternative and renewable energy sources.
Referring to the transport and energy sectors, Shehbaz Sharif underscored the need for a comprehensive electric vehicle policy to promote energy efficiency and provide affordable transportation options for citizens.
He instructed all ministries to ensure meaningful consultations with experts to facilitate the adoption of modern technologies throughout the economy.
The prime minister further emphasized the importance of inter-ministerial coordination, directing government departments to work closely together in formulating and implementing effective development policies.
He reiterated that transparency in governance and optimal performance in reform initiatives remain key priorities of the government.
During the meeting, representatives from relevant ministries briefed participants on various policy proposals currently under consideration.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Climate Change Minister Musadik Malik, Power Minister Awais Leghari, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, senior officials of the Special Investment Facilitation Council, and other government representatives.
