PM Shehbaz Calls for Strict Action Against Human Traffickers Amid Ongoing Tragedies
PM Orders Strict Action Against Officials Delaying Human Trafficking Cases

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for the strictest action against human traffickers following the latest tragedy involving Pakistani victims. Chairing a high-level meeting on human trafficking, the prime minister expressed his deep concern and anger over the lack of implementation of his earlier directives regarding the 2023 boat disaster in Greece, where over 250 Pakistanis tragically lost their lives.
During the meeting, PM Sharif was briefed on the current state of human trafficking cases in Pakistan. Officials revealed that, over the past year, 174 cases had been presented in court, but only four had resulted in convictions. Expressing his frustration over the slow pace of justice, the prime minister emphasized that these recurring incidents serve as a stark reminder of the country’s deepening human trafficking crisis.
Referring to the devastating boat tragedy, PM Sharif described the incident as a “national shame” and reiterated the urgent need for stronger preventive measures against human trafficking. He called for comprehensive action, including international collaboration with organizations dedicated to combating this crime, and urged for a renewed focus on public awareness campaigns to protect vulnerable citizens from exploitation.
Additionally, PM Sharif instructed the authorities to take strict action against officers who were responsible for delays in legal proceedings related to human trafficking. He demanded detailed reports on the number of Pakistani deaths linked to trafficking over the past year and emphasized that swift justice must prevail in these cases.

The call for decisive action comes as the issue of human trafficking continues to plague the nation. Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Shazia Atta Marri also weighed in on the matter, demanding that those involved in trafficking be held accountable. Marri stressed that human trafficking is a severe violation of human rights, and those responsible for such crimes must be brought to justice.
The prime minister’s directive is expected to accelerate efforts against human traffickers and reinforce Pakistan’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens from the dangers of illegal migration and exploitation.
