PIA Riyadh Flights Suspended as Saudi Airport Attack Raises Concern

PIA – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – Riyadh flights suspended for now, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has confirmed. The national airline has paused its service to the Saudi capital after attacks on Riyadh airport raised serious safety concerns.

The PAA made it clear that the pause is limited. Flights to other parts of Saudi Arabia are still running as usual.

In its statement, the authority said PIA has stopped flying only to Riyadh for the time being. No other Saudi route has been touched.

The PAA also dismissed rumours spreading on social media. It said these claims were not true and urged people not to believe them.

The clarification came a day after the attacks on Riyadh airport on Thursday. Saudi authorities said three people were killed and several others were injured.

The attacks also damaged an aircraft of Saudia Airlines. Because of this, several airlines have cancelled their flights to Riyadh.

Tension has risen further after Yemen’s Houthi group repeated its threats against aircraft flying over Saudi Arabia. The group said planes above the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah would not be targeted.

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency has also widened the area where it advises airlines not to fly. It pointed to the recent attacks and the risk they pose to civil aviation.

The PAA has not said how long the PIA suspension will last. The airline is expected to resume flights once the situation becomes safer.

Passengers booked on Riyadh flights should contact PIA or their travel agent for the latest updates. It is also wise to check flight status before leaving for the airport.

Travellers heading to other Saudi cities can continue with their plans, as those flights are operating normally.
