Petrol Price Today Pakistan: Fuel Rates Drop Again as OGRA Moves to Daily Pricing

Pakistan – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – Petrol price today Pakistan has gone down once more, giving some relief to daily commuters and drivers across the country. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority, known as OGRA, has cut petrol by Rs4.08 per litre. The new petrol rate now stands at Rs331.95, down from Rs336.03.

High-speed diesel has also become cheaper. The price has dropped by Rs2.45 per litre. Diesel now costs Rs389.93 per litre, compared to Rs392.38 earlier.

These new prices came into effect from August 4. OGRA shared the update on its official website, as it now does every single day.

Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik explained that fuel prices are now based on a seven-day average of international oil rates. This helps match global standards. It also means changes in world oil prices reach the public much faster.

Earlier, fuel prices were revised every two weeks. Then the government moved to a weekly system. Now, daily pricing has taken over completely.

Along with petrol and diesel, kerosene oil has become cheaper too. OGRA lowered its price by Rs3.58 per litre. The new kerosene rate is Rs301.64 per litre, down from Rs305.22.

This price cut was announced through an official notice issued on Monday.

Middle East Tensions Behind the Shift

The switch to daily fuel pricing did not happen without reason. Ongoing conflict in the Middle East has caused sharp ups and downs in global oil prices. Tensions rose again after Israel and the United States attacked Iran back in February. In response, Iran shut down the Strait of Hormuz, a key route used for nearly one-fifth of the world’s energy supply.

A ceasefire between Iran and the US was reached in June, but it did not last long. Fighting has picked up again, raising fresh worries about oil flow disruptions.

How the New Pricing System Works

Under the new setup, OGRA does not need approval from the prime minister or federal government before releasing daily prices. This makes the process faster and more direct.

However, prices announced on Friday will stay the same through Saturday and Sunday. OGRA has also confirmed it will publish daily Platts reference prices starting from July 1, 2026.

There is one limit though. The petroleum levy cannot go beyond what the federal cabinet has approved. Any change to this levy needs sign-off from the Finance Division.

The government has also updated import rules for the coming fiscal year. High-speed diesel imports will now go only through Pakistan State Oil, known as PSO. Other oil marketing companies can still import petrol, based on their share of the market.

Companies that fail to meet their import targets will face a ban. They won’t get new import permissions for up to nine months.

Kerosene and light diesel oil prices will also follow the same daily pricing pattern going forward.
