Lahore(Tahir Chuhdary);PCB Launches Champions Cup to Uncover Fresh Talent, Revitalize National Team,The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has introduced the Champions Cup, a new tournament designed to spot emerging talent and rejuvenate the national team. This initiative aims to discover fresh faces, provide opportunities for young players to showcase their skills, and ultimately strengthen the national side.

At a press conference in Lahore along with board officials, Naqvi stated that there would be no alteration to the domestic system as no significant change was necessary.  He announced the introduction of Champions Cup which would feature five teams, each having 30 players.

The tournament will encompass all three formats of the game, with Waqar Younis as head of the CEOs of all five teams. Naqvi emphasised that the responsibility of polishing 30 players would be of CEOs of these teams.  The Champions Cup will also include international players, and Waqar Younis will oversee the players’ development, Naqvi said.

Additionally, Naqvi mentioned that the domestic cup would have a pool of 150 players from which the best players would be selected.

Waqar Younis to be Given Significant Role in PCB

The Champions Cup will feature top performers from domestic cricket, allowing them to compete against each other and demonstrate their abilities. This platform will enable the PCB to identify talented players who can be groomed for international cricket, thereby reviving the national team’s fortunes.

By launching the Champions Cup, the PCB seeks to revitalize Pakistan’s cricketing landscape, foster a competitive environment, and create a pipeline of talented players for the national team. This move is expected to have a positive impact on Pakistan’s cricketing future.

He also noted efforts to enhance women’s cricket by bringing in more resources.
