PCB Chairman Announces Major Overhaul of Pakistan’s Upcoming Test Squad
Mohsin Naqvi Calls on PSL Franchises to Promote Young Talent
LAHORE: (Sports Desk) – Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said on Saturday that the board had put its house in order and expected positive results in the future as efforts continued to improve cricket in the country.
Addressing a press conference, Naqvi said some players became complacent after achieving fame and stopped focusing on learning and development. He stressed the importance of continuous improvement and nurturing talent to strengthen Pakistan cricket.
The PCB chairman announced that the national Test squad would be unveiled on Saturday, adding that approximately 80 per cent of the selected players would be new faces.
Naqvi also revealed plans to expand the school cricket programme, saying that 3,000 children would be inducted into the initiative next time to identify and develop emerging talent at the grassroots level.
He said he had also asked Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise owners to introduce fresh talent into their respective teams, emphasising the need to provide opportunities to promising young cricketers.
Naqvi maintained that the PCB could not transform the country’s cricket system on its own and that cooperation from franchises was essential to achieving meaningful progress.
“We will work together with franchises,” he said, highlighting the importance of collective efforts to improve the standard of cricket in Pakistan.
The PCB chairman further disclosed that extensive work was underway at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to improve player development and strengthen the country’s cricketing infrastructure.
