PCB Clears Mohammad Rizwan for Domestic Cricket Return
Rizwan to Represent SNGPL in President’s Trophy After PCB Clearance
KARACHI: (Sports Reporter) – The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has granted permission to former Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan to participate in domestic cricket, clearing the way for him to feature in the President’s Trophy starting Monday.
According to sources, Rizwan will represent Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) in the tournament after receiving clearance from the PCB.
The development comes after Rizwan appeared before the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in October in connection with allegations involving online betting, gambling and the alleged leaking of team information from the dressing room during Pakistan’s Test series in England earlier this year.
Rizwan spent more than three and a half hours at the agency’s office, where four NCCIA officials reportedly questioned him. Neither the cricketer nor agency officials commented on the matter as he left the premises.
The 34-year-old had been served a notice under Section 160 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
When asked about the questioning and the conduct of NCCIA officials, Rizwan responded humorously, saying, “I am deaf (in this connection), the conduct (of NCCIA officials) was good. I am feeling hungry; so let me go.”
The NCCIA had reportedly confiscated Rizwan’s mobile phone in England on August 30 over information believed to be stored on the device. The agency had reportedly said the phone would be returned within three hours, but it had not been handed back by the time he was summoned for the inquiry.
It remains unclear whether the agency has returned Rizwan’s phone or whether he will be called in for further questioning. Reports also suggest that he was summoned for facial recognition as part of the phone’s forensic examination.
