Shujaat terminates Brother’s PML-Q membership,
Lahore_Punjab’s former chief minister Parvez Elahi said on Tuesday the actions of the interim government stalled various projects in the province and ultimately it would be responsible for the destruction on a massive scale.
He said the previous Punjab government headed by him reached an agreement with the Solid Waste Management Company after focusing on the nitty gritty of the law and the step of the caretaker government – to not implement the agreement – would be detrimental. .
He said this while heading a session of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid in which the former provincial assembly members of the party participated. He said the nation was indebted to the judiciary for maintaining the divisional and district status of Gujrat and Wazirabad and the interim government had no authority in the first place to take these steps.
Former Punjab chief minister Parvez Elahi Tuesday announced to merge Pakistan Muslim League (Q) into Pakistan Thereek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The move came hours after PML-Q president Ch Shujaat Hussain removed Elahi from the party.
After a meeting with PTI chairman Imran Khan, Ch Parvez Elahi along with his 10 former Punjab MPAs announced joining the PTI.
Former Punjab MPAs Hafiz Amar Yasir, Shujaat Nawaz, Abdullah Yusuf Waraich, Bao Rizwan, Sajid Bhatti, Ehsanul Haq, Muhammad Afzal, Basma Chaudhry and Khadija Umar Farooqui also participated in the meeting.
Musa Elahi, Chaudhry Maqsood Sulahria, Khurram Manwar Manj and Haji Umar Habib were also part of the meeting.
Addressing the media alongside Fawad Chaudhary, Ch Parvez said they have great regard for PTI and its chairman Imran Khan and would stand by him forever.
He said he and his former MPAs stand by Imran Khan in every difficult time.
“We will do everything that will benefit the country and nation and there will be no work that will harm the party.”
He said he had delivered for the country and the province while Shehbaz Sharif had not done any work that will benefit the people.
Welcoming Parvez Elahi, Fawad Chaudhry said Chaudhry Parvez Elahi has left Q-League today and became a part of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf.
“Inshallah Parvez Elahi Sahib will play his role in the struggle of Naya Pakistan, we will never forget his sacrifices and support.”
He announced that Pervaiz Elahi will be the President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
Meanhwile, Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-e-Azam) President Ch Shujaat Hussain has cancelled the party post and basic membership of former Punjab chief minister Parvez Elahi.
A letter in this regard has been sent to the Election Commission of Pakistan.
Ch Parvez Elahi was the Punjab President of the party.
Earlier, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain had suspended the party membership of Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi.
The suspension order was issued by Ch Shujaat after chairing an emergent meeting of the party which was attended by the party’s secretary Tariq Bashir Cheema, PML-Q Senior Vice President Chaudhry Salik, and senior leader of the party Chaudhry Shafay Hussain.
PML-Q president Ch Shujaat sent a show-cause notice to PML-Q provincial party president Ch Parvez Elahi over his comments regarding the party’s possible merger with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The development comes days after Elahi said that consultations were underway on a possible merger of PML-Q into PTI. Elahi’s statements of wanting to merge the provincial party into the PTI were discussed during the meeting.
In the show cause notice, Hussain stated that such a step would be illegal and unconstitutional. “PML-Q, as a political party has a particular character, vote bank, party discipline, constitution and rules, which were violated in your late-night statements to the media,” the notice read.
Being the provincial chief of the party, Parvez Elahi has no legal authority to emerge the party with others. If you want to join another party, you have to leave the party membership, the notice added.
Subsequently, Elahi’s basic party membership had been suspended and was given seven days to explain the statements. “Failure to do which would attract action from the party.”
Last month, the infighting between Pakistan Muslim League-Q intensified as PML-Q-faction led by former Punjab chief minister Parvez Elahi removed President Shujaat Hussain and replaced him with Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain in a meeting that was dubbed illegal by the central party.
During a so-called General Council meeting of the party, former federal minister Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain and former Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi have been elected unopposed Central and Punjab President of the Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q).
While the General Secretary of PML (Q) registered in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Tariq Bashir Cheema and Federal Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain termed Wajahat Hussain and Parvez Elahi’s election illegal and unconstitutional. PML-Q leaders Cheema and Salik also declared the general councils’ meetings fake and so-called and clarified that Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain is the President of the party as per the law.
On Jan 31, the Election Commission of Pakistan has declared that Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain will remain as president of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid. Pronouncing its reserved verdict, the ECP rejected the PML-Q Central Working Committee’s decision to remove Shujaat Hussain from party presidency.
Accepting Shujaat Hussain’s plea against his removal, the ECP also declared the PML-Q intra-party elections as illegal.
A five-member bench of the ECP, headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, had heard the petition.
The electoral watchdog had reserved its decision on August 18 last year after Shujaat Hussain approached it when Parvez Elahi’s group had decided to remove Shujaat Hussain and General Secretary Tariq Bashir Cheema from the party’s top slots.
Former Punjab chief minister Parvez Elahi had been responsible for orchestrating Shujaat’s ouster from his position as party leader. Further, Parvez was elected unopposed as PML-Q Punjab president at that time.
Former Punjab chief minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Chaudhry Parvez Elahi has joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) along with his 10 aides.
The announcement was made after PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat sacked him as the party’s Punjab president and revoked his basic membership.
Talking to media, PTI leader and former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry said that the former Punjab CM and other leaders have finally decided to join PTI after lengthy discussions.
He said that the party welcomes Elahi and his aides as they have now set on the path towards a “new Pakistan”. The former minister said, “Mr Elahi has rendered sacrifices and stood by Imran Khan through thick and thin.”
Fawad told media persons that the party has also decided to appoint Mr Elahi as PTI’s president and the senior leadership has also green-lighted the decision. “We will move forward over this step in line with our party’s constitution,” Fawad added.
On the occassion, Parvez Elahi said that he will always support the former prime minister, and never do anything that harms their new party.
Earlier today, former prime minister Imran Khan held a meeting with former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi in connection with the merger of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Mr Khan and Mr Elahi discussed the joint political alignment during the meeting. PTI Secretary General Asad Umar and 10 former PML-Q lawmakers and senior leaders were present in the meeting.
Hafiz Ammar Yasir, Shujaat Nawaz, Abdullah Yousuf Warraich, Bao Rizwan, Sajid Bhatti, Ahsanul Haq, Muhammad Afzal, Bisma Chaudhry, and Khadija Umar Farooqi also participated.
Moosa Elahi, Chaudhry Maqsood Sulehri, Khurram Munawar Manj, and Haji Umar Habib also attended the meeting.
